Michael Chiglinsky, Ph.D., a founding member of ACA Counseling, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and has been a practicing mental health professional for the past 30 years. He has practiced in a variety of settings including outpatient, public mental health, juvenile justice systems, public schools, and collegiate settings. "Dr. Mike" graduated from Lycoming College (A.B.-Psychology) & Georgia State University (M.Ed.; M.A.; and Ph.D.). His specialty areas include child/adolescent therapy, family therapy, psychological assessment, forensic assessment, psychological consultation, and individual/couples therapy. He uses a "systems-approach" in his therapeutic work, along with cognitive-behavioral therapies. "Dr. Mike" has served as a consultant to public school systems, juvenile court systems, social service agencies, and hospitals. His professional experiences include directing Child/Adolescent Inpatient Programs and serving as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at various colleges and universities. "Dr. Mike" is currently the Immediate Past-President of the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychology, the only statewide organization of Clinical Psychologists and previously served as the Past-President of the Blue Ridge Academy of Clinical Psychologists on two different occasions.He is a past recipient of the Mental Health Award from the Mental Health Association.

She is a graduate of UNC - Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Nursing and the University of Georgia with a Master's of Social Work. Joanne has worked in a variety of settings including public mental health centers, outpatient clinics, and hospital inpatient programs throughout Georgia and Virginia. Her areas of specialty include child & adolescent therapy, family therapy, eating disorders, and other mental health issues. For the past 20 years, she has maintained a private counseling practice with Appalachian Clinical Associates, P.C. (ACA Counseling Services). Joanne is active with the Virginia Society of Clinical Social Workers, serving as Past-Chairperson of the Roanoke Chapter.
Tracy L. Helmer, Psy.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who has provided psychological services for over 20 years. Dr. Helmer is licensed in the state of Virginia and provides individual, family and marital therapy. Dr. Helmer treats a wide variety of psychiatric disorders including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders as well as behavioral disorders, including oppositional-defiant and conduct disorders. Dr. Helmer specializes in the treatment of adolescents and their families as well as women’s issues. Dr. Helmer has provided services in both out-patient and in-patient settings and has previously served as the Clinical Director for a community mental health center. Dr. Helmer uses an interdisciplinary approach to decreasing symptoms while increasing positive life experiences.
Bethany Cook, M.S.W. is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years experience in the mental health field. She earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Bethany has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including hospitals, court systems, college counseling centers, and community mental health agencies. She has maintained a private practice at ACA Counseling since 2008. Bethany provides coaching and psychotherapy services to adolescents, adults, and families using an interdisciplinary approach. Tina Renick, RD, CSP, is a Registered Dietitian with over 15 years experience in the nutrition health field. She earned a B.A. in International Studies from the University of Dayton and a B.S. in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech. Tina completed her dietetic internship through Virginia Tech in 2000. Tina has worked as a clinical dietitian at hospitals and in outpatient clinics, and has experience working with both adults and children. She is board certified in pediatric nutrition. Tina provides nutrition counseling for individuals and families to improve eating habits and help manage chronic conditions. Her nutrition expertise includes food allergies/intolerances, overweight/obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, eating disorders, sports' nutrition, and gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS, IBD, and celiac disease. Nicole Elton, M.S.W. is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and completed her education at UNC-Chapel Hill. A professional psychotherapist, Nicole has over 15 years of professional experience and worked in outpatient counseling with Family Services of the Roanoke Valley for many years. She has treated adolescents, couples and adults in both individual and family counseling. Nicole uses a variety of treatment modalities including client-centered; insight-oriented; strength-based and cognitive-behavioral approaches.
